The effects of a $10 million grant targeting vehicle theft, hijacking, and other violent crimes may already be benefiting Illinois residents, as the number of stolen vehicles is down slightly from Q1 2025.
The Illinois State Police released a report on second-quarter figures showing 225 stolen vehicles were recovered, versus 243 recovered in the first quarter of 2025.
The grant, funded by the Illinois Secretary of State Illinois Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and the Insurance Verification Council, awarded $10 million for the first fiscal year, another $677,000 in June 2024, and $637,500 in July 2025.
